How do I deposit textbooks for the Textbook Swap & Share?
Answer
What is the Textbook Swap & Share?
It is a space in the LRC where students may deposit hardcopy textbooks they no longer wish to keep in their possession. Other students are welcome to freely take any of these textbooks for their own personal use.
How do I contribute a textbook to the Swap & Share?
Drop the textbook off at the LRC Circulation Desk during our staffed hours (M-F 08:00 – 16:00). LRC Staff will add a label that indicates it's been given to the Swap & Share and place it on this shelf.
Can I only contribute textbooks?
No, study guides and other study supplements are OK. If it's not related to USU curriculum -- e.g. fiction, self-help, etc. -- please consider using the book exchange at the LRC Circulation Desk.
Can any USU student participate?
Yes.
Can I donate my books to the LRC directly?
You may, but it is a lengthy process that requires an offer letter. See the links below for more information about donations to the LRC or USUHS Archives. Donations are considered separate from deposits to the Textbook Swap & Share.
What will happen to this textbook?
Textbooks may be picked up and taken home by other USU students as their own private property. If textbooks are out of date (no longer used by current classes), excessively worn, or if there are more copies than the LRC can house, excess copies may be recycled. Textbooks will not become government property.
Why do I have to drop the textbook off with an LRC staff member?
First, so that we can confirm that this textbook is for the Swap & Share, and not intended as an LRC donation. Second, so that we may be certain to label it as a "Swap & Share" textbook. This will ensure it is not accidentally mixed into the LRC's collections (e.g. our stacks or the textbook corner) and let others know that the book is intended for reuse (i.e. it is not simply a "lost" book).
What can I do with a book I pick up from the Swap & Share?
The books are not government property. The LRC places no restriction on them once they leave the library.
Do these books become government property?
No. These books are given by students for the purpose of allowing other interested students take and use them. Books on the Swap & Share are not government property and are not part of the LRC collection.
