How do I access PubMed?

Answer

The public PubMed database is available at: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/

From PubMed's About page:

PubMed is a free resource supporting the search and retrieval of biomedical and life sciences literature with the aim of improving health--both globally and personally.

The PubMed database contains more than 30 million citations and abstracts of biomedical literature. It does not include full-text journal articles; however, links to the full text are often present when available from other sources, such as the publisher's website or PubMed Central (PMC).

What about full text through PubMed?

As noted, PubMed's citations do not natively include full text. However, many of the citations include links to full text from other sources, including:

  1. PubMed Central (PMC), in which PubMed is able to provide free access to select materials (which are still subject to copyright restrictions); or
  2. Publisher websites, in which PubMed links to websites where full text articles are available for purchase.

What about USU LRC subscribed content?

USU LRC users may use PubMed@USU to enhance their experience of PubMed.

PubMed@USU adds an additional link on each PubMed citation which reads "Check USU Availability". Clicking on this link will automatically link you to the article via the LRC subscriptions, if available.

To access PubMed@USU, visit the LRC homepage and then log in to the appropriate section of the LRC website:

  • Click USU Main for users of the USU Main group (i.e. School of Medicine, Graduate School of Nursing, graduate programs, and Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute), or
  • Click USU Postgraduate Dental College for users affiliated with the PDC.

Once logged into the correct section of the LRC website, look for the PubMed@USU link under Top Resources or Search Our Collections.
