I'm having trouble logging into the LRC website!
Answer
There may be several reasons. Please see below.
- When I click on USU Main or USU Postgraduate Dental College, Nothing Happens
- No LRC Account
- Outdated LRC Account Due to Change in Status, Name, etc.
- Case Sensitive USU-SSO Username
- Problem with Cookies or Cached Files
When I click on USU Main or USU Postgraduate Dental College, Nothing Happens
This is a known problem where, from the LRC Home page, if you click on USU Main or USU Postgraduate Dental College to log in, the page simply redirects you back to the LRC home page (that is, it goes nowhere). This problem appeared to begin in April 2025. The LRC computer support team continues to investigate, but the problem seems to affect users located at military installations other than the USU main campus in Bethesda, MD (NSAB). In particular, it appears to be related to security settings on web browsers such as Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
Solution: For the time, if possible, please try using Firefox browser. Most users report that it is not affected by this problem.
- In addition, please help us troubleshoot by reporting this problem to your local base IT or computer support team.
- Lastly, contact LRC staff (link below) to let us know that you experienced this problem. We will contact all affected users after a long term solution is found.
No LRC Account
If this is your first time using the LRC website, you must register for an LRC account.
Solution: Please visit the LRC New/Returning Users link below. Click on Step 1: LRC Account and then on LRC New User Form. Fill out the form. Our computer support team will use your responses to verify your eligibility and create your LRC account accordingly.
Outdated LRC Account Due to Change in Status, Name, etc.
If you attempt to log into the LRC website but your LRC account is outdated, it may result in an "external authentication failed" message.
The LRC maintains its own database of user records. If your status has changed (such as your student, staff, or faculty affiliation), your name changed, or your USU Single Sign On username changed for any reason, the University may have changed your USU Single Sign On account. However, those changes do not automatically propagate to the LRC user database. Our computer support team must manually update your LRC account to bring it up to date.
Solution: Please visit the LRC New/Returning Users link below. Click on Step 1: LRC Account and then on LRC New User Form. Fill out the form. Our computer support team will use your responses to verify your eligibility and update your LRC account accordingly.
Case Sensitive USU-SSO Username
If the USU-SSO username is entered in different (uppercase versus lowercase) way than it appears in the USU-SSO system, it may result in an "external authentication failed".
The USU Single Sign On (USU-SSO) system is used to log into the LRC website. USU-SSO offers the choice to log in with a username and password or, optionally, with your CAC. If you are using the username and password option, please be aware that the username is case sensitive. For most users, this means entering in the USU-SSO username in all lowercase characters. (You may find that for other systems that employ the USU-SSO login, the username is not case sensitive. However, for the LRC website, it is case sensitive.)
Solution: Be sure to enter in your USU-SSO username using the correct case (usually, all lowercase characters).
Problem with Cookies or Cached Files
Occasionally, a problem with your web browser's cookies or cache files may result in an "external authentication failed" error message.
Solution: Open your web browser's settings and clear/delete all cookies and cache (cached files) for "all time". Then, close all your browser tabs and windows, re-start the browser, and try again.
