I get an "External Authentication Failed" message when I try to log into the LRC website

Answer

This is a common error and there may be several different causes.

Please try the solutions below.

Contact LRC staff with any questions or concerns.

Problem with Cookies or Cache

Occasionally, a problem with your web browser's cookies or cache files may result in an "external authentication failed" error message.

Resolution: Open your web browser's settings and clear/delete all cookies and cache (cached files) for "all time". Then, close all your browser tabs and windows, re-start the browser, and try again.

LRC User Account out of date

In addition to a USU Single Sign On (USU-SSO) account, each user must have an LRC user account to be able to log in to the LRC website. If a change occurs with a user's USU-SSO account, the LRC user account must also be edited to match the change. (Examples: A user changes status from alum to USU non-billeted faculty, or a user changes their name.) However, LRC user accounts are not automatically updated -- users must request the change.

Resolution: Visit the LRC New/Returning Users webpage (see link below), then fill out the LRC New User Form on that page.
